My sound controller on my laptop will not work in Ubuntu. It will work in Windows XP; I have a dual-boot laptop. Ubuntu startup sounds, sounds from YouTube videos, and etc is independent from the sound controller. I have a Compaq Presario laptop bought in September 2006. When I use the software sound controller in Ubuntu, it can’t control the sound. What should I do?
I am doing research to build a system that uses ubuntu OS as a manager to control several modular units built from PIC microcontrollers. Any one has done such a thing? or has any idea how?
I know kubuntu is just ubuntu with kde, but what is the purpose of kde. The kubuntu website didn’t even have anything to brag about? I’m curious, but not curious enough to try it for no apparent reason.

My family doesn’t trust me on this one. They are all addicted to windows and aside from grandma they won’t even look at ubuntu! come on it’s not like it’s from a spyware company.
It’s me again. I inserted the XP installer cd then restarted the system. On the start-up the screen says, “PRESS ANY KEY TO BOOT FROM CD…”, but that doesn’t work. i repeated it several times but ubuntu doesn’t seem to respond whenever i am pressing a key to boot from cd. ubuntu is just starting the system without booting.
any help?
I have Dell Inspiron Mini 910 with 16 gb ssd, 2 gb memory, running ubuntu, which only shows 883 mg memory and 727 gb available disk space, of total 3.4 gb. Bios shows 16gb fixed hdd, 2038 mb ext mem. Why doesn’t ubuntu recognize correct memory and hd?
