Im trying to install ubuntu 7.04 on my 160 Gb seagate freeagent external usb hard drive without installing the GRUB on the internal drive.i know ist possible because i previously did the same thing with xubuntu but im having problems getting the GRUB to install properly.
I know there is the ubuntu forums but they are only any good if you know what you’re looking for, and the whole point of what i want is i want to know knew things. Obv there is Digg and Lifehacker but is there anywhere else?
I use dvorak-classic on my ubuntu laptop, but the CentOS computer at work only has dvorak (standard, left, right).
I have the Ultimate Edition of Ubuntu installed to my laptop, which means pretty much everything works with it. However, I haven’t been able to get the Wireless Internet to work. I have a Linksys external wireless card. The Ultimate edition comes with several popular wireless detection programs and I’ve used all of them, but so far no good. Internet works fine when I plug directly in with ethernet.
Any suggestions? I’ll provide updates as I try what you guys think. Thanks!
I have installed Ubuntu (Gutsy Gibbon) and have the desktop and GDM login screen with nice dark themes but in between the login and the desktop loading the screen is the standard Ubuntu pink/orange/tan color and it really bugs me. How do I change the color of that background?
And I also need a place to download it from, because I can’t seem to find it on the VLC site.
I have a cd and all. So how do I install it? When I try to install it while Windows I dont know what to do then. I have Windows Vista

I want to run on windows but want the programming benefits that the terminal gives, i don’t really even need gnome. Cygwin does not work as well as I need it to but I am a moron so I might be doing something wrong but don’t know where, but thats not my question. Anyway is there a way to run at least the terminal in windows?
*Cygwin likes to give my my two word windows username which has a space but that is a no no in linux.
I downloaded a Kiba Dock to get more of a mac feel. but now i found something better and I dont know how to delete it becuz it doesnt show up on add/remove programs. Do I have to delete each file manually or what?
