I want to enter has the root user in ubuntu?

Ever since I converted from Windows to Ubuntu, one of the biggest obstacles to a full conversion is the EXTREME slowness of firefox, especially when switching between tabs with Web 2.0 content. As such, I often run Opera on Ubuntu and sometimes go back to Windows as much as I hate it.

Does anyone know if these problems will be fixed in Firefox 3?

I’m new to Ubuntu and I’m installing a dock(avant-window-navigator 0.2.6)..
I have NO IDEA how to install this.. I just extracted the folder to my desktop.

I am wondering who each Ubuntu and Kubuntu target.

It clicks maybe once every second, but only when I boot to Ubuntu every 15th time. I heard this was the hard drive going bad, but I’m not sure. I got rid of the clicking once when I uninstalled a bunch of things, but it started clicking again during a session when Firefox forced me to upgrade to 3.0.3. Any ideas? Thoughts? Comments? Jokes?

How would I install a windows program using wine for ubuntu?

I want to install an online game using wine. How do I use wine?

I had an idea using something called “WALL” in Red Hat Linux. But i dont remember that exactly now. Now i am using ubuntu now. Now i want to communicate with my officemate using the terminal window using the commands in terminal window. I searched and found out something like TALK,WRITE and WALL. But not proper here. SO can u please give me the absolute idea behind that. If you can please define the command with an example also.

I dual booted Xp and ubuntu but i feel thta i dont want ubuntu anymore.
I have them installed on different harddrives, and a want to remove ubuntu and the boot loader that comes with it.

When I customized it during the ordering process I customized it with windows vista. My husband and I called them and they said we can either ship it back and pay a $80 restocking fee or what we did was pay $130 for the vista program which includes a $70 discount. It doesn’t seem fair as we paid over $700 for this computer.

I have a recovery partition on my HP desktop. I would like to use the non-recovery partition (my C:\ drive to install ubuntu without touching my recovery partition in case I need to re-install XP at a later date. Is this possible?
