I’ve tried to put the latest version on my laptop and I keep getting a blank screen with some writing on it. When I’ve loaded Ubuntu on my Dell desktop (that’s much older than the laptop) it’s loaded well everytime.
How do I install Ubuntu after downloading it?
Also please mention how can you login as root? I am new to linux and am self learning it.. i cant install new packages also.. also should i do anything special to install my modem in ubuntu.. theres a folder named linux in the drivers folder of my modem cd.. but doubleclicking the driver file in the folder doesnt yield any results..help ?
I want to install Ubuntu without the need to use any CD’s, however, if needed; i will accept answers that include having to use a flash drive/ pen drive/ thumb drive/ USB drive/ whatever you may call it.
I tried to get it and install it, but nothing i do works. Im very confused. I have windows 95 and want ubuntu, but it when i put in the cd i made it just goes to windows 95 and doesnt ask to boot from cd, and it wont even open the cd when i get to windows. How do i get all of UBUNTU, that is everything i need for it and how do i put it on a cd.

However when I got to step 7-7 of the install, the screen said that I would lose all of my information on the partition. I really do not want to lose my XP at this time. I just want to learn more about Ubuntu.Has it set aside a partition to use or what? Not having very much experience with Ubuntu I wasn’t sure I should carry on, when I was prompted to finish the install. What do you think? help!!! lol

I have checked ’synaptic package manager’ and it is telling me that Virtual Box is installed.
I set up an old laptop with Ubuntu Linux with the intention of making it a print server. I hooked up a printer to it, and set it to share all printers, yet when I go onto my Windows computers, neither it, nor the printer attached to it, show up. What should I do to make it successfully work as a print server?
