I have a Toshiba Satellite A135-S4467 laptop that came pre-loaded with Windows Vista Home Premium. I want to dual-boot it with Ubuntu. I can’t spend any money. Can someone give me a link or leave instuctions to do so? I will also use anothe version of Linux as long as it is free and comes with a GUI.
I recently put a new HD in my computer. I then burned Ubuntu to a CD using DeepBurner. But I can’t figure out how to actually install it on my computer.
I have An HP DV4000 laptop with built in wireless network card but it wont seem to turn on.
How do i enable it or do i have to download any drivers.
I don’t really know much about Linux Distro’s, or what purpose they serve. But a lot of people seem to like Ubuntu, some even prefer it over XP & Vista, why could this be.
I read that not everything is compatible with Ubuntu, so if i wanted to switch over i’d have to sacrifice my games? music? pictures? etc?
I’m really interested in downloading the Ubuntu Linux ISO so I can boot it from a live CD, rather than always using Vista. But, I’ve heard mixed opinions on whether or not to re-partition my HD. My initial thought is that I could probably keep my HD in its current state as long as I run Ubuntu from Live CD rather than installing directly to the hard disk, but I’m not sure. Any direction would be greatly appreciated!
i didnt install ubuntu i just swiched start up to the disk how do i switch it back to mac
i went to system prefrenses in mac and changed boot up to the ubuntu cd so if i start my computer without the cd in it just asks for the cd
i didnt use boot camp all i did was go to system prefrenses and had it start up with the ubuntu cd
I installed Unbuntu on my computer a couple of months ago… but it has given me nothing but trouble… it works for 15 minutes than it freezes and i have to shut it down manually and start it all over again… Its rather frustrating I need it for college work and I dont know whats wrong or how to fix it…. HELP!
I wonder if it would be worth upgrading to Ubuntu from Vista?
I would mostly be playing games and making movies. I also wonder if most games are compatible with it.
And I have another question – would I have to reinstall every application I have (like usually when installing OSes) or no?
If not then is a different version of Linux fine?
And my last question: can you have 2 OSes at once? Like in my school, when you start up the computer you can choose from Linux or Windows XP.
Currently, Ubuntu is the only operating system I have. I am computer illiterate to say the least. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I put it on but it won’t start up so i wan’t to take it off and i don’t know how…
and when you start it up you have to choose between vista and linux so i would really like to get that fixed..thank you
