After installin network card on ubuntu wireless dont work i try every thing but nuthin seem to work can you help plz

I recently ordered a copy of Ubuntu Linux and it’s still with me though I haven’t started using it. I am going to get a laptop pretty soon( right now I have a desktop with Windows XP) and wish to use both Windows XP and Ubuntu Linux on the same Laptop…I am planning to get a 160 GB hard disk for the laptop and someone told me that it can be done by partitioning the hard disk into two parts one with XP , one with Ubuntu Linux. My question is that this guy who told me about the partitioning also told me that the computer becomes highly unstable and the chances to crash are more as compared to one OS on one computer if two operating systems are there on a single computer , is this true?

Oh, and the computer doesn’t have a disc drive. My husband tried to load Ubuntu on it and now it won’t boot and gives the error message #15. I have tried to boot it to the USB external drive with my recovery disc but that doesn’t work either. Thanks!

I have Linux Mint 5 on my laptop right now, but I want Ubuntu 8.10 on it. My laptop’s CPU is a 686, but I can’t find where to download an Ubuntu i686 iso. Does anyone know where to download? I tryed i386, and it ran smoothly from the live CD but it wouldn’t install. So does anyone know where to download an Ubuntu i686 iso? I don’t want xubuntu.

Do I have to extract the iso folder that looks like a zip folder?

The Avant Window Manager’s leopard skins do not look anything like Leopard, so I am using an old Tiger theme which I highly dislike. Any help. (Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex)

I’m using a USB antenna and my computer is a desktop only a few years old. I also have it dual booted with Windows.
It did not automatically connect to the internet like I’ve heard a lot of computers do.
I had the USB antenna connected while I was installing Ubuntu.
I’m new to Linux, so please keep it as simple as possible

I decided to give Linux a try, and I picked the Ubuntu variant. I have some problems with the Internet connection though. I have a broadband (modem-less) PPoE connection, and all the info needed in order for me to connect are the username and password (which I have).

Where can I enter this info in Ubuntu? Step-by-step please.

I have already downloaded softwares like scilab(similar to matlab) and VHDL from reprositories but I can’t find them on desktop and where to run them. I have also downloaded edubuntu metepackage.
