I really want to give the Linux thing a go I just need some guidance as I want to run Windows apps. within.
Someone with some patience please.
I know my way around Windows with my eyes closed but when it comes to Ubuntu im a total novice.

I am a programmer with some time on my hands, and i like some of the programming features of Linux. i have windows all settled in nicely but as i program i want to see if my programs run on Linux or visa-versa. i don’t want to have to reformat and the virtual pcs ive tried suck, Once i comes to the gui. what it does it goes into some odd mode. so is there a way around this?

Trying to change the Host name in Ubuntu on my new DELL mini. Having trouble changing it. Im not too bad at using UNIX terminals but still not very proficient. I was wondering if anyone out there new the commands.
i installed Ubuntu on a Fujitsu-Siemens notebook. i want to take it off and put winXP back. WinXP setup doesn’t recognise the hard disk. Xp service pack 3 was able to install successfully, but i want service pack two. inserting the pk 2 cd and starting installation still doesn’t work. i have even tried upgrading after a windows 98 installation. still didn’t work. someone help me out. thanks
So i burned the cd and booted it and when i click network it doesnt show me the networks and the bars like windows. How do i get my laptop to connect to the wireless router????? also linux wont allow me to install it on a external harddrive…. can anyone help with any of the two questions?
on the top right hand corner it only gives 2 option ( wired or dial up) so yea…
I’m really not good with computers and my brother just installed Ubuntu, and I can’t figure out how to install my Lexmark printer, I have Open Office word processor and I have to print something off, could someone please tell me how to install it so I can print with it? Instead of windows. Doesn’t matter if the only way to do this is to have it automatically dial in when using windows or ubuntu but only want it for ubuntu because can’t work out how to dial in from ubuntu
I know there are ‘tutorials’ out there (i have tried them) none of the things they suggest seems to work. Anyone know an easy way of installing asterisk?
in my synaptic package manager a package for asterisk is available i have installed it but have no idea how to access it.
