I have installed Ubuntu many times now, on all of my computers. But not my laptop because it doesn’t have enough RAM. I have a Compaq Presario 1700T. I found the documentation on doing a ’small’ install, for low memory computers but I don’t know where to download the iso. Could someone please give me the link to download the small installation iso for Ubuntu 8.04?

With a CD in the drive, everytime I open a file browser window, the CD spins up for about 20 seconds (presumably while Ubuntu loads the icon). Is there any way to stop it doing this?
And if anybody could has a site or something that could teach me more about this software it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
I just installed ubuntu on my computer and now I can dual boot between ubuntu linux and windows xp. I saw some pictures of beryl and I wanted to get that on my computer? How do i install beryl on my computer?? I have an intel accelerated graphics card on this laptop.
The Nokia N95 has the latest firmware, the laptop is about 4-5 years old Fujitsu Siemens Amilo D 8200 running on the Ubuntu 6.06 version.
I have 26.1 hard drive space on my C drive Ubuntu requires 4 GB of disk space. Do I have enough space?
It is not the temperature as its only 33 degrees. Is there a setting within Vista I need to tweak. I have checked the power settings and all seems fine, is there a hidden setting ? I have tested the Hard Drive using HDD Life, Health is at 91% and Performance is at 100%.
Any ideas ?

The only reason I am using Vista on one of my partitions is I was daft enough to buy it when it was first released. I hardly ever boot into it though.
Is there a way to setup parental control on Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron), without installing a different version? I don’t want to downgrade my OS in order to install the parental control available for the 7.04 or Christian Ubuntu.

My UNIX assignment requires the use of getpid() and getppid() functions, but my Linux distro (Ubuntu) outputs saying that such commands are not found.
I was wondering though… is there a way I can fix this, or is this only specific to this distro?
I’m using the bash shell and Ubuntu 8.04. I’d be very appreciative for any assistance :)
